Ok. Now we will talk about something really useful. If you are new to UAE and is looking for a job/career in advertising what should you do? I don’t know all the ways in which a job can be searched, but I can tell you what all I did when I came here first.

1. Try a good job placement consultancy.

Try MBR consultancy for example. They are dedicated advertising head hunters [Jessie, don’t pay me for this recommendation.] They are good and do a lot of follow up. But normally if you are a fresher, try some medium size consultancy. BUT DON’T PAY ANY MONEY FOR REGISTRATION.

2. Use yellow pages to get fax numbers of all the agencies. AND FAX…

It works. But be sure that your CV is small and crisp. Remember that you can make your possible employer really angry by making him waste fax paper. Did I say your CV has to be very creative while following this method?

3. I know a guy who knows a guy who knows about a possible vacancy…

Do networking. Find someone who is working currently in an advertising agency. Ask him about possible vacancies in his agency or any other place. Advertising is a small community and almost everyone knows every other one. Walk-in, talk, leave your CV. If you are good and lucky, you will end up with a job.

4. Meet the owner

Advertising agencies normally have a flat admin structure, especially small ones. Owner on top, all others come down directly under him. So it is easy to meet the boss directly. Go in, sit and converse. It worked miracles for me once. It still works for many.

Keep on trying. Advertising is a volatile field in every part of the world, and in UAE it is boiling. Frankly speaking it is not tough to find a place here, but where, when and which depends mainly on LUCK and many times NOT on talent.

I’m an senior creative guy, now in Dubai and looking to get a foot in an agency door here. I guess, it’s just like Denis said. Need some jolly good July-miracle or someone like Denis who doesn’t mind lending a little blog time and a helping hand.

Hi Arackal Saare, I’ve emailed you my CV, like I emailed one to MBR and a few agencies, with the hope that support and surprise can come from any corner – even your blog and your email id.

Thanks and one more thing: Your blog space is a pleasure. It’s real and for real guys like me.

  3. Denis Eugene Arackal Says:

    Dear Mr. Santosh,
Hope you might have heard from MBR by now. As you know well, it’s a bit tough to get good placements these days as everything here is connected to real estate and real estate is very very down.
I wish you all the best.
