Al Qasba, Sharjah
June 23, 2008
First let me have a confession. It’s been a long time since I am living in Sharjah, but my habit of going to Al Qasba for a walk has started only recently. Al Qasba in Sharjah is a very quiet place, fortunately or unfortunately not many people visit this place. Three years ago, Al Qasba was so deserted that you could hear your footsteps echoing as you walked by the canal.
From Dubai, if your take a direct road to Al Tauwn Mall, Al Qasba is just near by. By 7pm all lights are turned on and the place is ready for families and people looking for a calm lovely place to relax. Don’t worry about the parking as they have many.
The main venue has lot of restaurants, among which Lebanese, Indian & Chinese I have noted. Sometimes I have seen live musicians play by the canal. There is a huge Giant Wheel located at one end, which is called ‘Eye of the Emirates”.
Now I visit Al Qasba very often. I normally take a walk, browse books at a small book stall situated across the canal, have a tea, sit a while and leave for home peacefully.

Al-Qasba is sought for its quaint charm. This is why it should not be used as a venue to host gaudy & loud fairs/festivals that mar its beauty & suck-in the prized quiteness that is so needed for unwinding & reflection.
Its a good thing most people don’t know about it. The noisy crowd go to the corniche so the Qasba is left for the peace lovers.
